Portrait Bust (herm of Fundilia Rufa)

Excavated by Lord Savile from the Temple of Diana near Lake Nemi, Italy, in 1885, this “herm”or portrait bust, was made between 1 and 50 AD and features a woman of around 50 years, with an usual tutalus hairstyle. At the base the instription, dedicated by her slave Doctus, translates as “Fundilia, daughter of Gaius Fundilius Rufus, patroness of Doctus.”
