Trilobite (Hydrocephalus sp.)
Go to Nottingham City MuseumsFS11875
Like crabs and lobsters, trilobites moulted and it is their moulted shells that we most often find as fossils. Despite being one of the most successful life forms ever to have evolved, they became extinct at the end of the Permian Period about 250 million years ago, long before dinosaurs existed.
