Kyathos
Go to Nottingham City MuseumsNCM 1888-226
A ladle used to pour wine mixed with water, from a vessel into cups. There are traces of incised decoration on the rim, handle and inside. The kyathos is Etruscan ‘Buccero’ wear of 699-500BC, made of purified clay and fired in a kiln with a reduced oxygen supply, which caused it to turn black.
