A rare wrought iron breech-loading cannon recovered from the well in Richard’s Tower at Nottingham Castle. Dated to 1400-1550, x-ray analysis shows the barrel to be constructed from 32 component parts. It would originally have sat on an oak stock secured by iron binding straps.
