Byron brought this gilt carved wood bed with him from his undergraduate rooms at Trinity College, Cambridge when he moved into Newstead Abbey in 1808. The baron’s coronets decorating the cornice of the bed advertise his aristocratic credentials: he was the 6th Baron Byron of Rochdale.
