Basford Beam Engine

Built in 1858 by R.W. Hawthorn of Newcastle upon Tyne, this engine was one of two installed at Basford Pumping Station. The engines raised water from three wells which were sunk 110 feet into the Sherwood stadstone beds which lie beneath Nottingham, until 1965.
